Meet John Moolenaar

John Moolenaar has a lifetime of service to his family, his community and his state. John began his professional career at Dow Chemical Company as a Chemist/Industry Specialist developing new markets for products. Later, as the Director of the Small Business Center at Middle Michigan Development Corporation, John Moolenaar worked to improve the local business climate and to attract jobs to the region. John has continued his commitment to job growth, retention and development while serving as Director of Business Development for MITECH+ promoting economic and workforce development for the region.

John Moolenaar has served in the educational sector as the school administrator at the Midland Academy of Advanced and Creative Studies. John has also taught several classes at Saginaw Valley State University.

John Moolenaar began his political career by serving on the Midland City Council, working to keep taxes down and to strengthen the local business climate. He continued in public service on the staff of then Senator Bill Schuette.

John Moolenaar then served three terms as Michigan's 98th District State Representative. During his tenure in the House of Representatives, John served as Chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on School Aid and the Department of Education, Vice-Chair of Environmental Quality, Minority Vice-Chair of the Education Committee as well as serving on the Energy & Technology Committee and the Great Lakes & Environment Committee.

Born and raised in Midland, John graduated from Herbert Henry Dow High School and Hope College, later receiving a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Harvard University. John and his wife, Amy, have six children and currently reside in Midland.
